Hillview Happenings
Dear Hillview Families,
We hope that everyone had a great start to the new school year. We took time to learn many new routines and we enjoyed reuniting with good friends at school throughout our first month. Parents/guardians also had nice opportunities to attend teacher presentations and to learn about the curriculum at our September 19th Open House. It was a pleasure to spend time with our parents/guardians.
Hillview staff members recommend the following ideas to support young learners at home: Read often with your child and visit the public library so that a variety of fiction and non-fiction books can be borrowed. Students can write about the story or the informational text in a special notebook. Students can also practice math fact flash cards to enhance fact fluency and keep a math journal so that they can author real world math problems. We appreciate all the ways that parents/guardians support our students beyond the school day.
We are excited to have our Family Fall Festival and Theme Basket Raffle on Wednesday, October 23rd from 6:00-7:30 pm. Our wonderful Hillview PTO works hard to make this fun and festive event special for our students and families. Information about the festival was sent home last week. There is also still time to join the PTO. This organization helps to provide our students with field trips, assemblies and other enjoyable events at our school. Our September PTO meeting in our library media center was a huge success. It is clear that our Hillview parents/guardians are dedicated to planning an amazing school year for our students!
We were able to practice many safety drills in September, including fire drills and bus safety drills. Students will participate in a “15 minute early release day” this Friday, October 4th. Dismissal will begin at 3:00 pm on that day. In addition, we will enjoy a “Halloween Parade” for students and staff members during the school day on Friday, October 31st. Additional details about the parade will be sent home soon.
Thank you for all that you are doing at home to support your child’s education. We look forward to enjoying the first full month of autumn at school!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Moeller
Principal

Virtual Backpack
Here you will find informational flyers from the school, the PTO, and community organizations. Postings are organized by month and category. They are posted as printable PDFs to afford easy access for parents. They will remain accessible throughout the year, which means no more searching through your child's backpack looking for a lost flyer!
New Policy:
At this time, paper copies of all school-sponsored events will also be sent home with students. However, flyers from community organizations will ONLY be posted to our Virtual Backpack and will no longer be sent home with each child.
Community organizations may submit flyers in PDF form to our Superintendent's office for approval and should not be interpreted as District sponsorship of an event or endorsement of any organization. The information is posted by the District as a community service. The approval process for the distribution of flyers has not changed.
